Doing compound exercises – those using multi joints and muscle groups – for example squats, pull-ups, presses etc – will burn more calories than isolated exercises such as leg extensions, flies, or lateral raises.
Compound exercises will also help you get stronger by, to put it simply, recruiting the other smaller surrounding muscles to assist the bigger ones.
So whenever you can choose your exercises wisely and go for a big compound movements and follow them up with the aesthetic enhancing isolated movements.
